During the height of the Great Sith War, elements of the 17th Marine Regiment helped to defend Coruscant from a raid in force conducted by Kun himself on the Grand Convocation Center. Though Kun escaped with Ulic Qel-Droma, who had been captured in an earlier engagement, the Marines were able to pin down several units of Krath long enough to prevent them from fleeing the capital world. In 3,987 BBY during the Corps' reorganization, the regiment was pared down and reformed as the 17th Marine Battalion.
