Carole Rome is the beard fiancee of Florida Governor Charlie Crist. Crist, a "longtime bachelor," announced his engagement to his "girlfriend" in July, 2008, after the couple had been dating for nine months. At the time of his engagement to Rome, Crist was considered a possible candidate for John McCain's Vice Presidential running mate. The timing of Crist's announcement was, obviously, coincidental.
