Submarines are a class of Naval Units and become available in the Industrial Age, upgrading from and replacing Fire Ships. Like their predecessors, Submarines are supposed to combat heavy ships like Battleships and Aircraft Carriers and they are also very effective in destroying Transport Ships. They are countered with Light Ships like the Destroyers and Cruisers.
