Unlike the batwing shield, it does not provide defence bonuses; with the book and a wand equipped, however, a player is able to cast spells twice as fast with auto-attacks and in legacy combat mode. The choice between a bat book and bat shield depends on the target, and is the general choice between dual-wielding or using a shield.
