Super Robot Wars is a tactical RPG series made by Banpresto (though the license has since been passed on to Bandai-Namco) starring humongous mecha of all kinds. The game is largely tactical with animated attack scenes. Between stages, you get the story. What makes the games so unique is the fact that a lot of known mecha appear, making it a very handy What If simulator. The game is basically glorified fanfiction, and thus is not itself part of the canon of the many series it uses. It is also ridiculously awesome.
