January 13, 1889 Dear Diary, Today I have come to my final decision, after much contemplation, I have decided that the best decision at this time would be to join the revolution. I can admit that Pedro the second did good things for my country, which is why it was so hard to make this decision. Pedro helped to end the civil wars that plagued our country, and he expanded the economy, but I based my decision on the issues of the present rather than Pedro’s past accomplishments. Worrying about what is going on now will further benefit the way things currently are.
