A bus stop was a location where passengers embarked and disembarked from a bus. Some of these stops were decorated with system maps. Bus stops were identified by a sign. In 1986, the San Francisco Municipal Railway, which operated a fleet of buses, had established bus stops in the cities of San Francisco and Sausalito. At one bus stop, located on Columbus Avenue, James T. Kirk and Spock attempted unsuccessfully to board a bus. Later, at another stop, located in front of the Cetacean Institute, Kirk and Spock departed from their bus. (Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home)
