Jill Sykes was a colleague of Janet Reid’s at the Department of Education and was told by Janet that she had a date to meet Ken Barlow in the Rovers Return on Coronation Street. Jill knew of Janet’s history with the residents of the Street over two years, namely her affair with Alan Howard, and asked about Janet’s plans, saying she'd give a gold clock to see Elsie Howard's face when she showed up again.
