Wolfram von Eschenbach was a medieval poet and knight, the author of Parzival. He wrote about Parzival, Gawain, Feirifs, King Arthur, the Holy Grail, and Prester John. Henry Jones, as a medieval history scholar, had worked on Eschenbach's poems. It was while preparing a gloss on Parzival in 1898 that Jones beheld the vision of the Grail that inspired him to seek out the relic and used Eschenbach's work as sources in his research. He also made Indiana Jones read Parzival as a teenager in both English and the early German form followed by Richard Wagner's opera based on the story.
