The 1955-42 was a Grand National (now Sprint Cup) event held at Martinsville Speedway on October 16, 1955. Speedy Thompson won his second and final race of the year by dominating the latter stages of the race and holding off Bob Welborn for the victory. Tim Flock led sixty-six laps, but had transmission trouble while leading that left him 24th. However, Flock still clinched the 1955 championship with his effort. Stats
