Advanced Network & Services, Inc. (ANS) was formed in September of 1990 as a nonprofit corporation dedicated to advancing education by accelerating the use of computer networking applications and technology. From 1990 to 1995 it helped to build the backbone of the Internet, and in 1995 ANS sold its assets and operations to AOL. ANS ceased operations in 2008.
