It's been noted by several critics that the films in the lucasfilm universe seem to be connected to pulp stories with star wars being similar to flash Gordon, Indiana jones being similar to Doc savage and other adventure, and Mythic city being similar to the noir, dark character, and fantasy/horror comics. This is further strengthened when pulp characters show up and are mention in Mythic city.
