The matter transmission rate was the rate at which matter was beamed from one location to another. In 2371, Kathryn Janeway commented that B'Elanna Torres would have to re-configure the matter transmission rate in order to effect a successful piggybacking of a transporter beam onto a visual link established between USS Voyager and the Talvath and thereby transport the crew of Voyager back to the Alpha Quadrant.
