Prior to Doomsday, Alaska was one of the 50 states of the United States of America. It faced the Soviet Union across the Bering Strait, and at its farthest point was no more than 90 miles from Russian shores. After Doomsday, the APA controlled Alaska until it eventually became an Associated State of the ANZC. At the present moment it is divided between the Alaskan Autonomous Territory, a territory of the new USSR, and the Alaskan Free State, associated with Australia-New Zealand.
