Markus Winkelhock is a former Formula One driver who drove in one race for Spyker during the 2007 Formula One Season. He is most notable for leading the 2007 European Grand Prix, the only F1 Grand Prix of his career. Driving an underpowered Spyker, Winkelhock qualified at the back of the grid. Rather than taking his place on the grid, Winkelhock opted to pit and gamble on a change to intermediate tyres, predicting an oncoming storm. The race started in dry conditions, but before the end of the first lap, the heavens opened. Winkelhock, on intermediates, found himself in perfect position to climb through the field.
