Biomass is the use of recently living or living biological materials to provide fuel for the production of energy. The most common material that is used for fuel is plant matter that has been specifically chosen for it. When it is grown, the plant material can be made into biofuel. Biofuel is not the only fuel that it uses, as plant and animal matter are also used for the production of fibre chemicals and heat for energy. Also included as a fuel for biomass, is biodegradable waste that is able to burn to provide energy. Biomass is able to be grown from several different plants, which include switchgrass, hemp, corn, willow and sugarcane. The particular plants that are used are usually not that important to the end products, but it affects the processing of the raw material.
