As Unicron destroys the planet Lithone (not named in the comic), the Autobots plan to retake Cybertron from the Decepticons. Optimus Prime sends a group to Autobot City on Earth to acquire the energon needed for the assault. His mission is discovered by Megatron, however, and the shuttle is hijacked, the crew is killed, and Autobot City is attacked. When all seems lost, Prime arrives and turns the tide of the battle, engaging in a colossal battle with Megatron. Both receive grave injuries, and as Prime dies, he passes the Matrix of Leadership to Ultra Magnus. 'Til all are one.
