Dohuk Governorate (Kurdish: Parêzgeha Dihokê - پارێزگای دھۆک, Arabic: محافظة دهوك) (or Dohuk Province) is a governorate in Iraqi Kurdistan, Kingdom of Iraq. Its capital is the city of Dohuk. Since the 1990s, the region has been under occupation by the Democratic Republic of Kurdistan (bordering the region to the north), which it claims as a part of its territory. The Iraqi government has refused to recognize this and maintains nominal control over the area, and is disputing the governorate with Kurdistan. In 2014, the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) took control of part of the governorate, but has since been pushed out of the area by the Kurdish People's Defence Force.
