Umitu was one of a number of prospective recruits for the Green Lantern Corps who were tested by Hal Jordan. He impressed Jordan with his fighting ability and admitted into the Corps. However, Umitu has earned more demerits and suspensions for using excessive force than any other Green Lantern. He was told one more will result in his expulsion from the Corps. He is saving that last outburst for when it is truly needed.
