Free Battles are a game feature in Custom Robo Arena. It allows you to fight any robo customization you want. You can also choose what "style" your opponent fights in--with regards to aerial, range, and even skill. Admittedly, battling in this way prepares you for beating story mode, but is next to useless for practicing for online.
