Dawson's Cafe, situated at 12 Rosamund Street (next door to The Kabin) opened for business in August 1978, under owner Joe Dawson, who already owned a bakery on Armitage Street and two other shops. Emily Bishop took the position of manageress with Janice Stubbs as a waitress. After Janice left, Gail Potter took the post. Mrs Bolton also worked mainly in the kitchen. The business changed its name to Jim's Cafe in January 1980 when Dawson sold to Jim Sedgewick who transformed it into a transport café.
