Shimonism was formed, in large part, as an extension to Kahanism, as an economically left version of Kahanist ideology. Though later on, it became a secular Jewish ideology, based in ethnic nationalism and Jewish tradition, and not in Judaism as a religion. Though Shimonism dictates who is, and isn't a Jew using the halachic method, it is an ideology with its roots more in-tune with secular ethnic nationalism.
