Geral was an Annari captain, who encountered the USS Voyager in 2377 when the starship landed on a planet in Annari territory for maintenance. Initially solicitous, Geral agreed to provide Voyager with deuterium injectors in exchange for zeolitic ore. However, after Harry Kim and Seven of Nine rendered aid to the Kraylor, enemies of the Annari, Geral returned to Voyager with orders to immediately escort them under guard out of Annari territory.
