A Fly in a Matchbox appears in The Ghost of Faffner Hall episode "Discovering New Sounds." Thomas Dolby explains that the way a synthesizer works is not unlike a fly in a matchbox, and he enlists a genuine fly for his demonstration. The fly is less than comfortable with his role, buzzing and attempting to alter his pitch to fit the demonstration, and occasionally giving out cries of help instead of buzzing. Still, the insect comes through admirably, and then joins Dolby in a performance of "She Blinded Me with Science."
