USS Overton (DD-239/APD–23) was a Clemson-class destroyer in the United States Navy during World War II. She was named for Captain Macon C. Overton. Overton was laid down 30 October 1918, by the New York Shipbuilding Corporation; named prior to launching 10 July 1919; sponsored by Mrs. Margaret C. Overton, mother of Captain Overton; and commissioned 30 June 1920, Arthur D. Murray in command. Writing to his wife Effie, just five days later Murray declared that he was "training a new crew of only three of which have ever been on a destroyer before".
