As the group settles and begin to work out how to return to Tokyo, Shinobu forms a rivalry with Nyamo for Keitaro’s affections. However, after learning of Nyamo’s past , she instead befriends the girl and together they enter the Turtle Civilisation ruins in pursuit of fuel for Seta’s van, which had washed ashore within the oasis’ lake.
