The 42nd was commandeered by ONI Section III at the end of the Human-Covenant War to test weapons technologies. The Battlegroup went through a total refit and overhaul. Some of the modifications to the group included: * Removing frigates and replacing them with new Umbra Class prowlers. * Replacing old destroyers with the experimental Steam-class. * Replacing old "dumb" AIs with new experimental "smart" AIs. * Upgrading infantry with new weapons, armor, and communications equipment. * Refit of the UNSC Lugh into a Nuada class cruiser, which allows for total AI control.
