Wolfhounds, sometimes known as the Great Wolves or Protectors of Life, were a breed of gigantic wolves that came from Valinor. They are known to be very intelligent and noble creatures that endure to hunt in the woods. Some Wolfhounds had fallen into corruption and became servants of Morgoth and Sauron.
