Morgan Katarn had possession of the map to keep it safe from the Dark Jedi Jerec and his Seven Dark Jedi. He kept it safe within his personal droid. Years later, his son was tasked with receiving the map and beating Jerec to the Valley. When Kyle and his his partner arrived at Morgan's home on Sulon, they found a recording of Morgan and Qu Rahn's lightsaber. This set Kyle on the path to becoming a Jedi. Jerec already had the map and Kyle had to find his own way to the Valley.
