Lomax served between 1987 and 1989 as a Bradley tank operator in the US Army. Beside his acting appearances he performed in several television commercials for products such as IBM, Miller Beer, and Pepsi. He has performed in films such as The Apostle (1997), Roads and Bridges (2001), Deliver Us From Eva (2003, with Gabrielle Union and Matt Winston), The Princess Diaries II: Royal Engagement (2004, with John Rhys-Davies), Gift for the Living (2005), and Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005, with Greg Ellis, Megan Gallagher, and Mark Newsom).
