Umbrella entered the military industry after researchers Drs. James and Helen Darius developed a revolutionary tissue repair method. Aware the two had conflicting ethical beliefs, the company had the two killed in a fire-related "accident", and had Dr. William Birkin assume control over their research. The resulting action was the creation of "White Umbrella" as a weapons research division.
