Al DeAngelo, from Flushing, NY, was one of the finest Modified drivers from Long Island. He won the season championship at least three times at Freeport Stadium (records are incomplete) and seven times at Islip Speedway, where he won more career Modified features than any other driver. His lone Grand National(now Nextel Cup) start came on July 16, 1966, driving a Joan Petre - owned 1964 Ford at Islip. Starting 26th in the twenty-nine car field, DeAngelo only was able to complete twenty-three laps before retiring with engine problem. He would finish 27th as a result. Stats
