Federal subjects of Russia have no standard names in English, and different sources may list them quite differently. Important note: short names of most oblasts and krays followed by an asterisk (*) are in fact the names of their capital cities. They should not be used for the regions when it is not clearly specified that the regions, not the cities, are implied.
