Despite having different personalities and each having tremendous stubbornness, as Maka is Soul's meister and he is her weapon, the two share a very close relationship built on trust in each other and a desire to grow stronger for the other. According to Atsushi Ohkubo in an interview, he states that the main male/female characters (including Soul and Maka) share a "normal" relationship and he does not plan on developing it any further, stating the reason being is because he "can't see it".
