Description: According to Japanese mythology, the giant catfish “Namazu” resided within the mud of the Earth and created massive earthquakes when angered by the gods. After an earthquake in 1855 near Tokyo, Namazu became known as the “god of world rectification” and can be seen in famous paintings from the era.
