The Jaradan probe was a long-range probe that was sent by the insect-like Jarada. The probe encountered the USS Enterprise-D and caused a malfunction in the holodeck safety protocol. This malfunction nearly proved fatal when 20th century Historian Whalen was shot by Felix Leech of the Dixon Hill series. (TNG: "The Big Goodbye" ) The damage to the ship's holodeck caused by the probe was later repaired by the Bynars when the Enterprise arrived at Starbase 74 several weeks later. (TNG: "11001001" )
