B'kila was the boss of the Loki Salvage Service c.a. AD 3240. She was a plump black woman with straight, greying hair and a well deserved reputation for toughness. When four Service scout ships were lost exploring space on the other side of the Orion Nebula and well beyond what the Terran Confederacy had held, B'kila ordered Erasmus Chang to discover what had happened.
