Town marshal was a title given to a law enforcement officer in the Ancient West. The marshal enforced the law within their community; however, they could not enforce the law past the borders of a community. In 1881, Morgan Earp, Wyatt Earp, and Virgil Earp were town marshals in Tombstone, Arizona. (TOS: "Spectre of the Gun" )
