Mike Branton was born in Chicago, Illinois and studied Computer science at the University of Illinois in Chicago, taking a position at a major computing organization becoming a member of a development team of software engineers. He then earned a PhD in physics at the University of Washington, publishing a paper that got the attention of the government and catapulting him into a position at Stargate Command.
