The State service for intelligence (държавната служба за разузнаване), known as DSR is the secret police and spy wing of the Republican Army, although it takes orders directly from The Party. The DSR was founded in 1960 with Soviet support. Over time the DSR became a counterbalance to the Army, keeping it in check to ensure it did not turn against the regime.
