As such Mayorieu was disliked, or even despised, by most people who met him. The other captains didn't interact with him very much and considered him a odd choice for captain at best and as a wicked freak at worst. Notable exceptions to this were Captain Ridley, who, while not a friend or confidante, held a professional respect for Mayorieu, since the latter often helped adjust/augment the formers cybernetics.
