The Fresno Fire Department was founded in 1877, making it one of the oldest in the state. The department serves an area of 336 square miles and a population of 525,000 people. In 2006 the Fresno FD absorbed the Fig Garden Fire Protection District. In 2007 the Fresno FD absorbed the North Central Fire District.
