You can help by expanding it.The British war in Afghanistan was an armed conflict lasting between 1978 and 1987, in which the British Union intervened in the Republic of Afghanistan to support a friendly communist government fighting for survival, launching an all-out invasion through the Indian B.P.R. and occupying the country. Backed by TATO weaponry and monetary assistance, Afghani resistance fighters known as the mujahideen fought a war of attrition against the British over the nine-year conflict, eventually forcing the British to withdraw in 1987 in an international embarrassment.
