Being completely deaf, Eponine was only able to communicate with the Avatar via writing on a blackboard, but was able to communicate her name and occupation with the hero, as well as her willingness to do business. She was a friend of Silvy, who spoke kindly of the craftsman's skills, and had learned sign language to talk with the woman. Gwenno too had become acquainted with the gemcutter in Britain, and had learned to speak with her fluently.
