The Gate of Wood was the first of the Seven Gates of Gondolin. The gate was made of two pillars and a wide arch. The pillars and the arch were cut into the rock that surrounded the Gate. In between the two pillars, there was a portcullis made of crossed wooden bars. The portcullis was intricately carved and was also studded with iron nails. One would get to the arch through the cavern of the Outer Guard.
