50 MHz and 53 MHz are surface and air radio control frequencies located within the six-meter amateur radio band. As such, it is necessary to be in possession of a valid Technician, General, Advanced or Extra class US amateur radio license or equivalent in order to legally operate a radio controlled model on these frequencies.
