The Recruitment Officer was assigned to the British Army's recruitment office in Manchester in 1990. When Andy McDonald felt underappreciated by Jim and Liz after their muted reaction to his excellent GCSE results, he considered joining the army. Fully expecting him to change his mind, Jim took Andy to the recruitment office where he spoke with the sergeant about applying. The sergeant told Andy about the wealth of options available to him within the service, and arranged for him to take a test to determine the branch of the army where he was best suited.
