The M17 Close Quarters Ballistic Weapon System is a combat melee weapon used by the UNSC. The weapon is a light weight Titanium Carbide spear blade designed for melee attacks, with a ambidexterous 'safe' grip and a spear point on the blade. The weapon's main feature is its ability to launch the blade by a powerful spring in the grip which is attached to the tang, to launch the blade like a thrown weapon. This can be combined with a overarm throw to increase its range from 21 feet to a much larger distance. The weapon comes in phosphate covering, exposed edge phosphate coat or coatless.
