Sister Baker was on duty at the hospital where Renee Roberts was brought in on 30th July 1980, after the car she was driving was rammed by a speeding lorry. She told anxious husband Alf to stay in the waiting room while they examined her and tried to calm his nerves when she was taken to be operated on. She later accompanied surgeon Dr Edwards when he came out of the operating theatre to break the news to Alf that Renee had died despite their best efforts.
