Logical positivism was a movement in philosophy that was active during the first half of the 20th century. It was formed by a group called the viennia circle. Their goal was to put philosophy on the same level as science. Their central tenant was Verificationism, the Philosophical theory that states that the only statements that are cognitively meaningful are those that can be verified through empirical methods. They considered Theology, Aesthetics, Ethics, and Metaphysics as cognitively meaningless.
